Baptist Leader Condemns Yoga!
Baptist Leader Condemns Yoga! – A lot of people use yoga because its relaxing (after you get used to it, of course), and it has a spiritual element, too. But lurking somewhere in Louisville, Kentucky is a Southern Baptist preacher who disagrees. To him, Yoga’s the Devil!
Albert Mohler, the preacher in question, says that yoga is basically “spooky,” and that it isn’t a Christian enough way to reach God.
“I’m really surprised by the depth of the commitment to yoga found on the part of many who identify as Christians,” Mohler said to the Associated Press.
In defense of yoga, people often say they do it for the exercise or for its calming effects, and to that Mohler says, “They’re not practicing yoga.” That’s because Mohler is concerned mainly with the yoga of Hindus, which often involve chanting and meditation, and using the body as vehicle to reach consciousness to the divine.
So, as we can see here, it doesn’t really matter what religion one subscribes to, they’re all kooky. And passing it off as “spooky”, is just another way off admitting that one doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
And for the record, this writer sucks at yoga. Sometimes I’ll do yoga with my wife, and after an hour I feel like a train wreck. My favorite yoga pose is corpse pose, which is essentially laying flat on your back. Corpse pose is the best after doing an hour of regular yoga.

Who is he to pass judgement on how any Christian or other conducts their lives. I do believe that there is only one who can pass that judgement and I am pretty sure it is not this Babtist minister. I think he could make better use of his time tending to his own flock because I am pretty sure there are many who fall under sin, including our minister friend. If our bodies are our temple I feel that we should follow whatever means to make us as healthy as possible, if that means using the Om chant, which is a symbol for inner peace, then by all means use it and stretch out your worries of today. I do Yoga and I am impressed that it is no judgement passed upon anyone to do or say anything that THEY are not comfortable with including a chant. The only stipulation is do what is comfortable for you as a person, spiritually and mentally. If you want to use your own faith then by all means use it. I think this minister should attend a few classes before he influences the judgement and hateful responses of others!

Yoga has been around for about 5000 years, Christianity for 2000 years, and Mr. Mohler is shocked, shocked, to discover they are not the same thing.
