NFL Roster Cuts 2010 – Lots Of Surprises To Trim Down Teams
NFL Roster Cuts 2010 – Lots Of Surprises To Trim Down Teams – Since the 2010 NFL season is quickly approaching, many teams are cutting down their rosters to 53 players so they can get their teams all squared away. Since the NFL roster cuts deadline 2010 was yesterday, there have been a number of surprising moves.
QB Leinart Cut By Cardinals
Let’s start off with one big story when the Arizona Cardinals decided to cut quarterback Matt Leinart after he was simply unable to beat out Derek Anderson for the starting job. Leinart, who was the 10th overall pick in the 2006 draft was said to be the future quarterback of the Cardinals but was unable to win the job against just about any quarterback.
WR Houshmandzadeh Cut By Seahawks
Only a year after signing a five year deal worth $40 million, the Seahawks decided to cut Houshmandzadeh. Since Pete Carroll took over as coach, it seems as though he was looking for younger talent and Housh is already in his 30s. The Seahawks were originally looking to trade the wide out but ended up releasing him yesterday instead.
WR Walker Cut By Vikings
WR Javon Walker reunited with Brett Favre but that didn’t last long. He was soon cut by the Vikings. The rumor that seems to be going around is Walker was released because they are going to try to sign Houshmandzadeh.
LB Burgess Cut By Patriots
A little surprising here but LB/DE Derrick Burgess was cut by the Patriots even though he was starting with the first team. It seemed as though he was struggling a bit but I didn’t think he struggled enough to be cut just like that.
QB Smith Cut By Ravens
Former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was cut the Ravens and it was pretty surprising given the fact that he was a decent backup quarterback. But I guess the Ravens felt Joe Flacco was just that good in the starting job that he didn’t need someone like Smith.
CB Bly Cut By Lions
After signing a two year contract in July, the Lions decided it was time to cut cornerback Dre Bly. He had three interceptions last season but he was burned quite a few times.
WR Clayton Cut By Bucs
Another first round draft pick, WR Michael Clayton was cut by the Buccaneers and yet it surprised a bunch of people. The Bucs receiving corp hasn’t been that great but then again, Clayton just hasn’t played up to his potential since being drafted.
There were obviously a lot more NFL roster cuts in 2010 but these are the main ones that simply surprised me more than the others. If you would like to check out the entire NFL roster cuts 2010 then simply go to nfl.com.
