Rape Case Reopened Against Wikileaks Founder – Julian Assange, the man responsible for angering the U.S. Department of Defense for making public thousands of classified documents, is being investigated for rape.  Swedish authorities have reopened a case alleging that Assange, an Australian, raped a Swedish woman.

Assange maintains that this is all a smear campaign by the “opponents of Wikileaks.”  This case has apparently opened and reopened numerous times throughout the years.  Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny said this opening and reopening of cases is common with Swedish sex crimes.

The previous ruling was to investigate the case as only a “molestation” instead of a rape.  But, new evidence has lead the prosecution to investigate the case as a full-fledged rape.

I’m not sure how credible it is to say that there’s a “smear campaign” against him.  I can think of many people who have been critical of the establishment, who have never been indicted on criminal charges – George Carlin, Michael Moore, various actors, The Young Turks, etc.

That’s not to say that there’s not people out there looking for dirt on these people.  But, let’s face it, if there’s dirt on you, then it’s really easy to get you on something.  And if it’s something like rape, it’s even easier.
