Troy Polamalu’s Hair Insured for $1 Million
Troy Polamalu’s Hair Insured for $1 Million – Head and Shoulders knows a good head of hair when it sees it and has insured its spokesperson, the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steeler, Troy Polamalu’s hair with Lloyd’s of London for $1 million for the entire NFL season. Hide those shears.
Let’s face it though. If Polamalu wasn’t one of the most outstanding players of his generation at the safety position, this probably would never have happened. He is a stand-out in a sport that love to showcase its stand-outs, but he has also been easily identified by his tresses so this is one of the most logical endorsement deals going.
It is a culmination of hard work and dedicated hair care. If you have seen the humorous commercials that highlight his silken locks, you know that the guy is really sporting a great mane. If you have seen the Pittsburgh Steelers without him on the field, you notice a hole in their defense like a bald spot on an Irish Setter.
Procter and Gamble, the parent company of Head and Shoulders, is actually the Big Cheese that sought the policy. While Troy’s locks are impressive, they can also be a liability unto themselves in the NFL as any player who wears his hair longer than his helmet is at risk of getting tackled by a good, hard yank.
Putting all jokes aside for a moment, let’s give consideration to why this came about.
Troy Polamalu is American Samoan and stopped cutting his hair in 2003 as a tribute to his ancestors. That is some real dedication and I give him full props for not forgetting his heritage while he is enjoying so much success half a world away.
