Illegal Immigration Bill 2010 – Other States May Follow Arizona
Illegal Immigration Bill 2010 – Other States May Follow Arizona – If you have turned on the news at some point in 2010, I’m sure you would have heard about the strict anti-immigration law Arizona passed. While that is currently being challenged, it seems as though other states want to follow in the same footsteps.
In case you didn’t hear, Arizona’s illegal immigration bill basically gives the rights for law enforcement to question anyone they feel may be an illegal alien. That caused an uproar because it is discriminatory and even the Obama administration sued Arizona in federal court charging that “the state law usurps federal authority, would hamper immigration enforcement and would lead to police harassment of those without proof of lawful status.”
That is not going to stop other states from following Arizona, though. Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah are taking steps against illegal immigration and are trying to get something passed as early as next year.
Those three states have officially taken steps towards anti-immigration but lawmakers in at least 17 total states had drew up similar bills to those of Arizona’s law.
This will be an ongoing debate and battle no matter how you look at it. We won’t know what will happen but I’m leaning towards getting rid of that bill. I mean, who would want to walk down the street and be questioned by law enforcement just because they feel you may be an illegal alien?
More to come.

I think you need to actually READ the bill. You are incorrect on what the bill does. You have to already have been stopped for something in order for them to be able to question you. If you have a driver’s license or I.D. like we’re all required to carry what is the big deal. If you don’t have identification, which sounds suspect to me, then they will question your immigration status. I’m hispanic and I’m not worried nor does it bother me, I always carry my identification with me, I think the majority of U.S. citizens and legal residents do. All the complaining and whining in my opinion is ridiculous. If you’re here legally you have nothing to worry about.

Jessica is right..read the entire law. The police are not behind it because it gives the victim of a crime the ability to hold an officer responsible for detaining a suspect. Basically this bill came about because of the crime occurring in AZ that was ignored by the Police.People were getting fed up with becoming victims. As an example in auto accidents it is common that if one is hit by an illegal (usually with no license ,registration, insurance and usually no ownership papers for the vehicle) then the “phantom”driver as they are known by drives off without even a citation. The officer can not be bothered and I personally have been informed by officers that they do not want to take the time informing ICE. Meanwhile the victim of the accident deals with the bills and higher insurance. In AZ if you are even the victim of an accident there is a law that states that if you do not have ID and papers you can be taken to jail. The majority of illegals get to walk away. This is not a matter of Racism… It is a matter of accountability. When do you leave the house without some form of ID on you?
Another thing that has been missed by all the hoopla. Let me make it clear that it was Not Jan Brewer that is responsible for this law.The People of AZ Voted in this bill… It would have been passed even if she did not sign it! The Feds obviously are not paying attention as to who made this bill. If it was Voted on by the vast majority of Arizonans then They are tromping on not only State sovereignty but citizen’s civil rights!

“Who would want to be questioned just because they are an illegal alien?”
A nice standard you set there.
After all I am sure Martha Stuart would have preferred not to have her stock trades submitted to scrutiny or Mr. Capone would not want to have his tax returns looked at.
President Clinton or president Nixon sure found it inconvenient to have their actions under scrutiny also.
The whole point of having laws is so that conduct can be judged by the standard that is set by law, not to judge the law by conduct that the criminal finds to be inconvenient.

From what I see on the AZ immigration law issue is that the majority of US Citizens are for the law. However it also appears that the majority of US Elected officials and news media are against it.
Somehow for a so-called democracy that doesn’t track. Rather than filing all kinds of lawsuits shouldn’t the legislators be going to work to fixed the problem at a federal level?
Since the DOJ has now filed their lawsuit they’ve effectively taken the Obama Administration (and congress) off the hook for doing anything until well after the next presidential elections.
It will take that long to get through the lower courts and to the Supreme Court where this should be heard in first instance to start with.

———— Welcome to the United Socialists States of America
Plenty of people are finding fault with the Arizona law SB1070 signed by Gov. Jan Brewer,(1) but evidently they haven’t considered, or are trying to hide the fact that the Federal law ICE287 is essentially the same law.(2)
There needs to be no question why the ACLU, and other entities have been protesting SB1070, because they also protested the federal ICE 287 program.(3)
When Senor Wences, Felipe Calderon, from Mexico criticizes Arizona’s law, something is blatantly wrong. How can Mexico’s President, who enforces harsh immigration law/s, and knows little about Arizona’s problems be given creditability?(4)
When Eric Holder calls SB1070 possibly unconstitutional, without reading the law, something is blatantly wrong.(5)
If people did read the bill they would find racial profiling is specifically addressed, and prohibited.
Why is it OK for a fed program to crack down on illegals, but if Arizona wants to enforce the same rules, Arizona is racist?
As Governor Brewer has said “I just keep questioning the fact of the continuation of misleading, I believe, the American public on the facts. It’s very clear, it’s been in federal law for decades, and it’s something that we implemented in here to use as another tool to get our borders secured — and if it was illegal or it was racial profiling here in the state of Arizona, it would then have been illegal and racial profiling decades ago for the United States. ….We are out here on the battlefield getting the impact of all this illegal immigration, and all the crime that comes with it, and no one… We have, I have repeatedly, sent letters to the administration and to the president of the United States with absolutely no response… We have borders for a reason. A nation without borders is like a house without walls. It collapses. We need help, Mr. President.”(6)
Are we a nation of children, allowing our nanny state to MISlead us? It’s evident the media is not researching all the facts. When will people admit they are getting sc***ed; states are getting forced to protect themselves, because the federal gov. is not doing its job.
Arizona’s Gov. Jan Brewer has tried to help her constituents — people need to try watching at least one political program a week/register for e-mails from their reps., or do something to know what their gov. is doing —- if we don’t know the truth, we don’t know how to vote, and who the corrupt are, in order to BOOT THE CORRUPT OUT.
