hurricane alex to affect oil spill

Hurricane Alex Is Coming To Spray Oil On a City Near You - It was in the back of many minds.  Hurricane season is approaching and Tropical storm Alex is already looking to be the first to strengthen into a hurricane for the season.   The storm is expected to hit the northern Mexico or southern Texas coast by Wednesday night.  Winds are expected to be around 90-100 mph.

This means more disaster is coming.  I can just imagine seeing videos of oil raining down on houses in the cities.  It may not get that bad but there is definitely nothing good to come of this.  The storm may push oil deeper into coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, into beaches and marshes where the oil has not yet reached.

According to The Associated Press, all the oil-skimming vessels off the coast of Louisiana have been ordered to return shore. There is also concern that rough seas could wash over booms and that the devices may need to be pulled from the water completely.

Thankfully the storm is not expected to come close enough to affect BP’s efforts to build relief wells.  Building relief wells seems to be the best effort so far to stop this otherwise uncontrollable oil spill.
