Hulu Charging for Content – Not as Scary as Our Nightmares
Hulu Charging for Content – Not as Scary as Our Nightmares – Hulu Plus is here and it isn’t as bad as it could have been.
Fans of Hulu can relax a little as Hulu is currently keeping much of its free content, but has now added a premium service called, Hulu Plus, which streams content to iPhones, iPads over WiFi or 3G.
This is NOT Apple/iPhone/iPAd exclusive. You can order this service to run on any PC running Microsoft XP SP2 or higher, Linux and Macs running OS X1.4 or above. Hulu is also working hard to make this service available on other platforms. Sony Playstation 3 will be supported “soon” and this Fall, Hulu Plus will also be made available for some of the Internet-Enabled Sony and Vizio line of TVs and Blu-ray players and home systems. The Hulu Plus demo video indicated that the service will be available for Microsoft Xbox 360 in 2011 and Plus service for Internet-Enabled Samsung TVs and Blue-ray disc players should be available next month.
Every current season episode from the top shows on ABC, NBC, and Fox are available and there is an impressive list of past season content as well. You’re looking at the complete libraries from past and current shows that run the gamut from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, to Speed Racer to Prison Break to The Office (so you don’t have to lose your favorite Steve Carell moments).
This service is in HD 720p at $9.99 a month plus any applicable taxes.
So the big question is, is your jones for viewing TV on your iPad or iPhone worth another $10 a month? Does this seem too high or is it actually lower than what you expected?
I was actually expecting a higher price point that I would refuse to pay, but Hulu Plus seems at least worth considering when I do my re-evaluation of my entertainment budget.
