Michael Weatherly Re-Signs With CBS and NCIS

Michael Weatherly Re-Signs With CBS and NCIS - Michael Weatherly, co-star of the hit show, NCIS, has agreed to a multi-year contract. This leaves Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee, as the only team member left unsigned with the CBS series.

Weatherly, who plays agent Tony DiNozzo, has stated in several interviews that he wants to enjoy a tenure on NCIS equivalent to what M*A*S*H ’s Loretta Swit, who played Margaret Houlihan or Jamie Farr’s Corporal Klinger found. For those that aren’t familiar with M*A*S*H’s history, many of the stars of the show refused to re-sign with the popular CBS show and left for bigger and better things – or so they thought.

McLean Stevenson went on to star in, “Hello, Larry.” Stevenson’s supposed star power failed to draw audiences and was the show was canceled almost as soon as it aired. “Hello, Larry,” became one of the most ridiculed sitcoms of its time.

Larry Linville and Wayne Rogers both saw more success than Stevenson, but they never reached the heights of the popularity they had enjoyed on M*A*S*H. In other words, Michael Weatherly understands that until your next contract extension, you’re really nothing more than another unemployed actor competing for work. Based on that premise, I have a feeling the prospects of re-signing Sean Murray are good. His wife just had a baby and he’s going to need all of the college tuition funding he can get his hands on.
