Nomar Garciaparra Retires
Nomar Garciaparra Retires – The tapping of his toes and constantly adjusting of his gloves in the batting box has finally come to an end. The former Red Sox shortstop who became an icon with the team has finally decided to retire. And he ended his career with the same team he started with – The Boston Red Sox.
Garciaparra, who was a two-time batting champion as well as a six-time All-Star made his retirement official on Wednesday when he signed a one-day minor league deal so he could retire as a member of the Red Sox.
Though, he has spent the last five and a half years playing for other teams since his trade to the Chicago Cubs. Since then, he has been plagued with injuries and he just never looked the same outside of a Red Sox uniform.
He did, however, have a rebound year in 2006 when he made the All-Star team but besides that year, it has been a downhill of injuries.
Anyways, he felt as though the best thing for him to do was to retire. And what better way to go out than to go back to the same team everyone knew you from. I mean, people only called him by his first name, that’s how well known he was.
Anyways, he had a great career and he was arguably one of the best shortstops of his generation. We’ll probably see him again. Though, maybe as a commentator or a coach but not a player.
