Sprint Now Selling HTC EVO 4G
Sprint Now Selling HTC EVO 4G – In what has got to be one of the most anticipated competitors to the iphone, Sprint’s online web store is now selling the HTC EVO 4G.
Retail is showing at a regular price of $449 with an Instant Savings (how so not cute anymore) of $150 when you lock into their 2-year contract. Couple that fun with a $100 mail-in rebate (you have got to be kidding) and the HTC EVO 4G is yours for a mere $199.
If you read the fine print (and you should,) this is an introductory offer that expires July 10, 2010 or while supplies last. Here’s a heads up that you could also be facing a new $36 line activation fee.
You say you don’t like it? You could be looking at a $200 early termination fee and a $35 restocking fee. While I don’t think anyone expected a phone with these kinds of built-in’s to be priced in the kiddie toy range, these kinds of fine print charges really dampens the fun and drama of the concept that is Open Source versus Apple’s High Guard iphone.
There are some worries that there a memory issues with the HTC EVO 4G – that software corruption warnings crop up when trying to access photos, or the photos are simply gone. Several users changed out the stock SanDisk Micro SD card for another and they reported no further problems. HTC says it’s a software issue that can be fixed via live update. I believe the users.
What of the reports saying Sprint has significantly compromised the security of the phone with it’s modifications of the Android OS? Early reports claim that some of the problems with the EVO 4G that also apply to the Hero will be disclosed beginning today and will go into more detail in about a week. It’s too early to tell if this claim has any teeth to it but we will soon find out.
In the meantime, the Sprint Online Store has been difficult to access this morning so if you want one, you might have to be patient.

the phone is 449 not 499. and that is some wild math you have:
499-150-100 = 150….
i believe the correct formula would be 449.99-150-100 = 199.99

Corrected. Thanks for the heads up. Shows you what happens when I blog before coffee and right before an appointment with my eye doctor.
