Kevin Garnett “Cancer Patient” Remarks To Charlie Villanueva: True Or Untrue?
Kevin Garnett “Cancer Patient” Remarks To Charlie Villanueva: True Or Untrue? – I’m sure you guys have heard by now that Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva tweeted that Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett called him a “cancer patient.” Well, this is a pretty strong claim so let’s try to break it down.
Villanueva tweeted after the Pistons loss to the Celtics:
“KG called me a cancer patient, I’m pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he’s tossing it like it’s a joke,” Villanueva wrote. He added, “I wouldn’t even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place 4 those.”
If you have been a NBA fan, well, you know who the biggest trash talker in the league is – Kevin Garnett. Though, just because he is labeled that throughout his career, does that mean this is exactly what he said?
According to Garnett:
“I am aware there was a major miscommunication regarding something I said on the court last night. My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact ‘You are cancerous to your team and our league.’ I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball.”
At this point, it’s a “he said, she said” situation. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look too good for KG especially since he’s in a “don’t cry wolf” scenario in a sense that he has trash talked his whole career and everybody knows it so why would people believe him?
First of all, Villanueva broke an unwritten rule because trash talking does take place in every sport you play. You leave it all on the court, field, rink, whatever. I mean, you think this was the worst thing during sports trash talking? I don’t think so!
Then we see Celtics head coach Doc Rivers say he heard KG call Villanueva a cancer. According to Rivers:
“They had been talking all game, which is nothing unusual, but in front of the bench when they got the tech, Kevin was out of the game and he looked over at the bench and you can hear Kevin yelling, ‘You’re a cancer. You’re a cancer. Everywhere you go, your team loses. You’re a cancer’.”
That may be a head coach just sticking up for his players but Rivers is a pretty straightforward honest guy. He even admitted that Garnett does talk a lot of trash.
So, should we believe Villanueva or KG? It’s hard to say because everything seems to be going against KG. But I believe he did not call him a “cancer patient.” I think KG probably did in fact call him a “cancer to his team and league” especially since coincidentally every team Villanueva played for has always had losing records. That includes the Raptors, Bucks and Pistons. The best team he played for finished 34-48.
In case you guys aren’t paying attention, the Pistons are currently 0-5 on the season. In addition, I guess Villanueva has somewhat of a reputation of not hustling on plays.
Again, this is all a “he said, she said” scenario and I think it should all be left on the court. If trash talking was always brought up on social networking sites, well, we would hear about it on the news everyday!
Leave it on the court guys! I mean, it is an unwritten rule anyways.
