Forbes Says First Lady is World’s Most Powerful Woman
Forbes Says First Lady is World’s Most Powerful Woman – Forbes magazine released it’s 100 Most Powerful Women in the World list and First Lady, Michelle Obama, takes the top spot.
2009 saw Obama in the 40th spot. Her meteoric rise means that German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has held strong at number one for four years, has fallen to fourth place.
Forbes’ reasons behind the accolades are her role model status and her campaign against childhood obesity. You can tell Forbes is now just gushing over her when you read profile and find quotes like this:
“…she’s Jackie Kennedy with a law degree from Harvard and street sense from Chicago’s South Side…”
In case you were wondering – no, Oprah Winfrey did NOT come in second. Number two is Irene Rosenfeld, Chief Executive of Kraft Foods. When you can hold your ground against Warren Buffet and come out a winner, you get big props.
Yes, what sounds like a prom-prank-gone-wrong like in the movie, Carrie, Lady Gaga came in seventh place. Forbes says Lady Gaga, “single-handedly reinvigorated pop music and pop culture.” They didn’t just cite her pop-power though, they also mentioned her support of gay rights.
While you’d think Lady Gaga is a huge wtf? amidst CEOs and stately women such as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Singer Beyonce actually made the Top 10 as well, coming in 9th place.
Do you agree with this list? I guess it’s Forbes’ list and they can pick who they want.
Congratulations to the First Lady and the rest.
